San Francisco’s California Institute of Integral studies will be hosting a free workshop, How-to Get Grants & Residencies: Free Workshop for Artists & Writers on Wednesday, July 15 from 5-7 PM.

This two-hour workshop is designed for creative professionals who seek time and money to pursue their projects.  Attendees will learn how to:

  • Search for opportunities;
  • Identify the documents you need to apply for grants and residencies;
  • Write a compelling application;
  • Tackle rejection with strategies to keep a winning mindset;
  • Celebrate the wins and use them to garner other opportunities.

The workshop instructor is Cheryl Patrice Derricotte, an artist who works primarily with glass and on paper. Cheryl is also the founder of 30 Minute Manager, an indie press she created to publish nonfiction.  She holds the Master of Fine Arts, from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), a Master of Regional Planning (MRP) from the College of Architecture, Art and Planning, Cornell University (1989) and a BA in Urban Affairs from Columbia University (1987).

Cheryl has numerous grants and fellowships.  Most recently, she received the Penland School of Crafts’ Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass Scholarship (2015); an Integral Teaching Fellowship from CIIS and a Creative Capacity Fund grant from the Center for Cultural Innovation (both in 2014); she was the recipient of a D.C. Commission on the Arts & Humanities/National Endowment for the Arts Artist Fellowship grant (2005).
